Teabagging == Racist Idiots + Corporate Manipulators

Exhibit A:

if people knew that those behind the demonstrations were the very same lobbyists and influence peddlers the teabaggers claim to decry, the whole thing would be revealed to be what it is -- a hollow excercise in extremist right-wing hypocrisy.

  1. I have *no* context, but I read that picture as "a guy protesting racism". I read his sign as saying "WTF? Where are he black people?", and I read his shirt as saying "Listen to Bob Marley". Am I totally misreading the situation ? Is he yawning or screaming ? -- Alan

  2. Yes, anon, he's laughing at the idiot protesters.

Funny how the protesters are against a tax cut for most of them. Hmmm...wonder what changed on January 20th?

Face it Repukes are out of ideas and lurching at any gimmick. We need a legitimate and sincere opposition party for the country to function. Not a bunch of whiny crybabies and racists.

  3. Given the "Listen to Bob Marley" shirt, I suspect that "Anonymous" is correct: he's ridiculing the protestors' lack of diversity, not applauding it.

In any case, we can't cherry-pick one person from the crowd at a big protest and say he's representative of the group, any more than we can say that this woman -- http://www.zombietime.com/zomblog/wp-content/images2009/IMG_8567.JPG -- represents everyone who criticized Israel's recent war in Gaza.

  4. This is ridiculous. The protest is about the actions the government is currently taking will be harmful to our nation. This isn't about racism. Its about preserving capitalism, preserving democracy, holding people accountable to their actions, not increasing taxes....

With all the money we are creating, what do you think is going to happen? We are going to go into a period of high inflation and things are going to get worse. Taxes will be increased, oil prices will go up.

We need to CHANGE (as Obama puts it correctly). We need to stop living on endless revolving-credit. Stop borrowing to pay for our 3 family gas guzzling SUVs. Stop buying homes we can barely afford even on two incomes.

Start saving our money. Buy things we can afford. Start contributing to our local economy. Build local markets, not more 4 lane intersections surrounded by strip malls and walmarts. Don't stick our children and grandchildren with the debt that we are currently creating.

This change has to happen within both the people of this country and the government. We can't create more money and go deeper into debt in order to fix this problem. This is exactly what the protests are about. We need to stop this madness.

  5. On a tangential note the BBC documentary "Century of the Self" details of how PR man (and grandson of Freud) Eddie Bernays pioneered astro-turfing techniques in the early part of the last century.

Youtube has quite a few quite clips, and the entire program can be downloaded from archive.org.

You can't understand modern society without watching it - it's that good. For me a lot of things fell into place after watching.
